Recently, TaxJar changed their pricing, removing API access for users of the $19/mo Starter plan. This change puts TaxJar and Marketplace Taxes out of reach for most of the small businesses that are in our target audience. In light of this development and in consideration of other factors like plugin adoption levels, we have decided to end support for Marketplace Taxes. Read on for more details.

When will support end?

We will end support for Marketplace Taxes on August 21, 2020. After this date, Marketplace Taxes will no longer be accessible through WordPress.org and we will stop issuing plugin updates.

What does this mean for Marketplace Taxes users?

The good news is that for the foreseeable future Marketplace Taxes should continue to function normally.  The plugin source code will also remain accessible in our GitHub repo for others to build upon as desired. We still advise that you seek out an alternative solution as soon as possible, but for the time being you don’t have to panic.

Are there any alternatives?

If you’re willing to act as the seller of record for your marketplace and handle tax compliance on behalf of your sellers, you can use any of the following plugins/services to automate sales tax calculations, reporting, and filing:

Your developer will have to write some custom code if you need to allow sellers to assign products to different tax categories, but these plugins all have the same core tax calculation capabilities as Marketplace Taxes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
